Will James Talarico top ActBlue's donor list on Sep 18?

The ActBlue leaderboard points to a familiar name as Friday's settlement nears

Will James Talarico top ActBlue's donor list on Sep 18?

James Talarico, the Texas state representative running for Senate, is the clear favorite to top ActBlue’s weekly fundraising list again this Friday, and Kalshi is pricing him as if the outcome is almost certain. He trades at 97 cents on the platform’s “top ActBlue fundraiser” contract, with the other six names at a penny or two. Talarico already sits in the top slot on ActBlue’s public leaderboard because nothing on the calendar before Friday morning, September 18, looks capable of knocking him off.

Kalshi’s weekly contract settles on whoever is leftmost on ActBlue’s “Top fundraisers from this week” list when the market reads it Friday at 10:00 a.m. ET. The list is driven by small-dollar flow, and Talarico runs the largest small-dollar machine in the field. Last quarter he raised $30 million from a donor file the campaign puts at 780,000 people, with 97% of gifts at $100 or less.

By comparison, Jon Ossoff has raised more overall this cycle, about $81 million versus Talarico’s $69 million as of August, but a large share of that is not small-dollar ActBlue flow.

In the same three months, Talarico posted $30 million, while Ossoff reported $14.6 million. Sherrod Brown’s last quarter was $17.1 million including PAC money, and only $5.1 million of it came through ActBlue, roughly a sixth of Talarico’s figure. No one else on the board has published a comparable ActBlue number, and Talarico has been the heaviest ActBlue digital advertiser in the field.

Fortunately, Talarico does not need a debate, a primary, or a scandal to stay on top of a seven-day list. The others do. And nothing in the current window supplies that kind of shock.

Delaware voted Tuesday, and Chris Coons won renomination with 84%. Safe incumbents do not trigger donation surges. Then, the first Texas Senate debate is September 22, and the quarter closes September 30, both after this contract settles.

There is no nomination lock, no runoff, no filing deadline, and no scheduled event that has historically produced the kind of one-day ActBlue bomb that has flipped this market earlier in the cycle. So the trade is quite simple. We are buying "Yes" on the "James Talarico" contract at 97 cents to capture 3.09% in a day.
