A European football final where one team is missing 9 players
Paris Saint-Germain have won Europe's biggest football trophy two years running and face a side missing 9 players
Aston Villa play a European final tonight without their goalkeeper, their center-back, and their center-forward. Emiliano Martínez, Ezri Konsa and Ollie Watkins are not injured. They are on the four-week holiday Unai Emery gave his World Cup players in July, which ends after the match is over. Polymarket's Super Cup market prices Paris Saint-Germain at 56.5 cents to win inside 90 minutes, paying about 77% at the whistle.
The catch is that Paris have to win it inside 90 minutes. A draw sends the whole thing to penalties, and this trophy has gone to penalties seven times in the last ten years.
The drawn editions were Bayern against Chelsea, Liverpool against Chelsea, Chelsea against Villarreal, Bayern against Sevilla, PSG against Tottenham. All three regulation wins since 2016 belong to one club, Real Madrid, and each came against a clearly weaker opponent: Manchester United, Eintracht Frankfurt, and Atalanta.
So, is Aston Villa at the same level as PSG or better? No. Tonight they are not. Here's why:

- Morgan Rogers and Youri Tielemans, who both scored in Villa's Europa League final, were sold this summer for about £152m

- Paris beat this Villa 5-4 across two matches in 2025, when Villa were whole
