Which artist does Billboard name number one for 2026?
Morgan Wallen’s year-old album is dominating 2026, making him the clear favorite for Billboard’s top artist award.

The best-selling record in America this year came out 15 months ago. Morgan Wallen released 'I'm the Problem' in May 2025, and in the first six months of 2026 it did 2.035 million album-equivalent units. The number combines sales and streams into one number. Interestingly, nothing released in 2026 came even close.
So Polymarket has him at 71 cents to be named Billboard's top artist of the year.
Why would he be priced so high when 16 different acts have reached number one on the Billboard 200 since January? Because Billboard scores its year-end artist chart by adding up chart weeks, and a record earns points for every week it appears anywhere on the Billboard 200 or the Hot 100. A week at number one is worth more than a week at number 30. 30 weeks at number 30 still beat two weeks at number one.
The title goes to whoever stays the longest, in other words. Warren's album has spent 14 weeks at number one since release and went back to the top again this summer. 36 of its 37 songs have charted on the Hot 100. And if that wasn't enough, he even won this same award in 2025 with this same album.
The only name on the board with a plausible shot to beat Morgan Wallen is Taylor Swift. However, her 'The Life of a Showgirl' finished its 12-week run at number one in January. Since then, she has not released any new music and has no plans to do so, at least until the end of 2026.
