The boring boomer gold trade against Bitcoin pays 30%
Bitcoin needs a miracle rally to beat gold that its four-year cycle has never produced this late in the year

The question of whether Bitcoin beats gold this year is really a question of whether you believe in a 4-year cycle or not. Bitcoin opened 2026 near $88,800 and trades around $64,200 today, down roughly 28%. Gold opened the year near $4,330 and sits around $4,020, down about 7%. That is a 20-point head start gold has already banked, and Polymarket's Bitcoin versus gold market gives Bitcoin only a 23% chance of erasing it by December 31.

Bitcoin's April 2024 halving fed a run that topped last October near $126,000, which was 18 months later, the same lag that preceded every prior peak. What follows a cycle top is a long grind. July tends to give an oversold bounce, which is roughly what price is doing now off the low 60s, and then the calendar turns hostile, with August and September historically being Bitcoin's weakest stretch.
Considering that after the cycle top, Bitcoin typically bottoms around a year after, then October is the most likely place for this drawdown to end. That is a terrible setup for closing a 20-point gap on gold in the 8 weeks that remain after it.
So, buying No at 77 cents pays a full dollar on January 1, a 30% return, and it wins in every scenario except a fall melt-up violent enough to make up 20 points against gold. The cycle has never produced that kind of move at this point on the clock.
