Knowing Anthropic's ticker is not how you get paid for it
Nine candidate Anthropic stock tickers sit on this Polymarket board, and 5 of them describe something that is not the company at all

On Wednesday and Thursday, Anthropic announced a $10bn compute deal with the cloud startup Volta, a new chief global affairs officer, and a chip design team. None of it was about the stock offering. However, Polymarket's Anthropic ticker market repriced anyway. With no public filing to read, traders price the symbol off whatever else the company does.
Buying a ticker is buying two things at once. Anthropic has to sell shares to the public, and it has to issue them under that specific ticker. Polymarket prices the first at 71% for this year on $1 million of volume, which is 16 times the money riding on the name.
And nobody knows for sure which ticker will Anthropic use. Here are a couple of facts:
- Anthropic confirmed on June 1 that it had submitted a draft registration statement to the SEC in confidence
- A confidential draft has to be published on EDGAR at least 15 days before the company starts selling the shares
- Anthropic has no public filings on EDGAR today, so the earliest possible listing is more than two weeks away
- The letters ANTH belong to Anthera Pharmaceuticals, a Hayward drug company suspended from Nasdaq on June 28, 2018, which now trades at a hundredth of a cent and is worth $2,620
- When Zoom Video went public in 2019, the symbol ZOOM was held by an unrelated shell called Zoom Technologies, so Zoom Video listed as ZM instead, and the confusion got so bad that the SEC suspended trading in the shell in February 2020.
- The 9 tradeable tickers add up to 85.6 cents
5 of those are highly likely not to end up anywhere. $CLAU, $CLDE, and $CLD are the product, and a company lists under its registrant, which is why Philip Morris is PM and not Marlboro. $APBC buries the legal form in the symbol, and no listed public benefit corporation does that. Warby Parker is WRBY, Lemonade LMND, Allbirds BIRD. And lastly, $ARPC decodes to Anthropic RPC, which is nothing anyone has published or will likely publish.
That leaves the 4 that shorten the company name. $ANTH at 33, $AAI at 19.6, $ANT at 9.2, and $ANAI at 1.2 cost 63 cents together, and pay 58.73% by December 31, 2027.
