Google AI has missed every date this market has ever set

Since June 1, Polymarket has run a rolling market on when Google's next flagship Gemini model arrives. Ten dated contracts have settled, and every one paid the no side. June 5, then the 12th, the 19th, the 26th, the 30th, then four dates in July. The only remaining probable option is August 31, priced at 88 cents and offering a 13.6% return on investment.

Google wrote on July 21 that Gemini 3.5 Pro "is currently testing with partners and we plan to make it broadly available as soon as it's ready." Sundar Pichai repeated it on the earnings call the next day. Outside testing is the last step before a launch, and Google has been running it since May.

The wait is also longer than Google normally tolerates. The last flagship, Gemini 3.1 Pro, arrived on February 19. That is 159 days, against a typical gap of 93 between one flagship and the next. Google has stretched it further twice, and both of those droughts ended in a release.

Polymarket rules count a general release of a model that already exists in preview. Gemini 3.1 Pro has been sitting in preview since February. The model before it took 84 days to graduate out, and this one is at 159. So the contract pays if Google launches the new model, and it also pays if Google simply finishes shipping the old one.

What's important is Google also has a presentation planned. Made by Google runs in New York on August 12, 19 days before the deadline, for a phone line whose entire selling point is Gemini. So, it's unlikely that a company with a finished model, an audience already booked, and rivals that shipped incredible models in July (Claude, Kimi, Qwen, and ChatGPT) is hunting for reasons to wait.
