Are traders overpaying for a Dodgers three-peat?

Dodgers World Series odds sit at 42%, despite Milwaukee's 103-win season. Is the market overpricing the three-peat story?

The Los Angeles Dodgers open the National League Championship Series against the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday, chasing a third straight World Series title. Polymarket's World Series market, which has traded over $43 million this season, prices them at 42% to win it all, versus 24% for Milwaukee.

That difference is interesting because the Brewers were the better team over 162 games. Milwaukee went 103-59, the best record in baseball and the best ever in franchise history. They also have home-field advantage in this series.

The market is roughly saying that the Dodgers are a 64/36 favorite to beat Milwaukee in a best-of-seven series. Facing a side with a better record and home-field advantage, that's a large premium.

One possible explanation is that the Dodgers swept the Brewers in last year's NLCS, and their pitching has dominated this October. Yoshinobu Yamamoto struck out 10 in seven innings in Game 3 of the Division Series. A rotation built around several aces travels well in a short series.

Where is the money going?

The trading flow tells a different story, as Milwaukee's World Series contracts have drawn about $1.8 million in volume, more than double the $0.8 million on the Dodgers. Traders are actively backing the Brewers.

The Dodgers also carry risks that the headline price might underweight. Their bullpen includes key relievers such as Blake Treinen and Brusdar Graterol, and late innings rather than starters often decide October series.

Predictbook takes the view that the market is paying a premium for the three-peat story. The Dodgers deserve to be favorites, but a price that implies they win this series nearly two times in three looks rich against a 103-win team with home-field advantage. Milwaukee at 24% to win the World Series is the value side heading into Game 1.

The opening games in Milwaukee will tell us quickly which view is right. If the Brewers hold serve at home, expect the gap to close fast. If the Dodgers steal Game 1, the three-peat price will start to look cheap rather than expensive.
